Welcome
to our website. Whether you are a DFC recipient or just browsing to learn
more about our rich history, we hope you enjoy our site.
In October, 2008 our Society celebrated its 14th anniversary at our national convention in Pensacola, FL. The three day event was enjoyed by all who attended with the next one scheduled for October, 2010 in Riverside, CA. The Society has grown rapidly and now numbers over 5000 and we have 20 active chapters spread across the country with more being formed.
At the national level, we provide the overall organizational umbrella
for our membership and their chapters.
To this end we:
- Emphasize public relations to improve the recognition of the Society and primarily the heroic deeds performed by our members. A significant effort is underway to promote local and national monuments to honor recipients of the Distinguished Flying Cross. The Society has a unique plaque in front of the Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles Airport (see www.nasm.si.edu and click on "Wall of Honor"). Members must put 'DFCSociety Member' on the application to be added to our foil/plaque.
- Promote a very active Oral History Program to record our rich history.
- Produce a quality newsletter three times a year for our members
- Sell numerous memorabilia items to our members
- Provide scholarships every year for descendants of members
At the local chapter level, there is active recruitment for new members and regularly scheduled social functions. Each chapter pursues our goals in their own unique way. They interact with their local communities and museums, establish memorials, talk with young people, start their own scholarship programs, sell memorabilia, and interact with other local veteran organizations. All of these efforts increase our recognition and promote patriotism within our great country.
Sincerely,
Chuck Sweeney |
