Donald O. Comb Back

Comb, Donald Oliver, Lieutenant (Junior Grade), United States Naval Reserve is awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for distinguishing himself by heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight in operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Kyushu, Japan. As a pilot of a cruiser based seaplane on 14 May 1945, he participated in the rescue of two downed aviators from a United States carrier from the Inland Sea of Japan. This was accomplished while under fire from enemy shore batteries and in the presence of enemy aircraft. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
